“Dr. Brown is a true authority on wellness programs and we are excited to have him as our keynote speaker,” says Jill Brown, UGC Programming Director and Medgate VP, Client Service Consulting. “Our goal is for conference attendees to return home empowered and equipped to improve their OH&S processes. Having Dr. Brown share his insights on wellness programs – a hot topic for many attendees – adds exceptional value to the overall conference experience.”
Over 200 occupational health and safety (OH&S) professionals from some of the world’s most notable organizations gather at the Medgate conference to discuss strategies in OH&S data management. In addition to Dr. Brown’s keynote, attendees can also participate in hands-on clinics, peer presentations, and best practice sessions around the use of Medgate’s OH&S software products.
More on MSKCC Employee Wellness:
Following 9/11, in 2001 Dr. Brown was asked to take on a new administrative assignment as Medical Director of Employee Health Service at MSKCC. Realizing that a new era and level of preparedness was now required at major medical centers and elsewhere – particularly in an urban setting such as New York City – MSKCC turned to Dr. Brown as a seasoned and respected Infectious Disease specialist to lead this effort.
With the help of his colleagues at Employee Health & Wellness Services, Dr. Brown transformed that Service into a full academic department developing all three of the ‘legs of the traditional academic stool’: patient care, teaching, and research. In 2009 ‘MSKCC Employee Wellness’ was initiated.
The MSKCC Employee Wellness initiative includes internal services such as Tobacco Cessation, Exercise & Fitness, Nutrition and Weight Reduction, Cancer Screening, Mental Health Services, Employee Assistance, Work\Life Initiatives, and Integrative Medicine programs. External programs include an e-Health portal, Health Risk Assessment, Disease Management, Maternity Management, Case Management and a 24/7 nurse help line. Additionally, an Employee Case Management Program was started and has successfully expedited employees’ return to work in an efficient manner resulting in consistent cost savings for MSKCC.
