Biography:
Mark Wallace is President and CEO of Cority, the most trusted environmental, health, safety, and quality (EHSQ) software for assuring client success. Under Mark’s leadership, Cority’s revenue has grown consistently at a compounded rate of 25-30 percent. The company has grown in employees from 29 when Mark started in 2003 to over 250 today. It enjoys an industry-leading profit margin. In 2016, Cority raised capital with Norwest Venture Partners, Georgian Partners, and BMO. Mark was a finalist for the 2017 EY Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.
Previously, Mark was Vice President, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary and a member of the executive management team of AT&T Canada Corp.
Mark is a graduate of St. Francis Xavier University, where he recently completed 10 years on the Board of Governors, including four as Chair of the Board. He received his J.D. from the University of Victoria and is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada. Mark is active in mentoring young entrepreneurs and has served on several other not for profit boards.
Q: What do you love most about your job at Cority?
The people. I’m very proud of the work environment we have all created and the great people on the Cority team. I enjoy coming to work every day.
Q: What’s your favorite thing to do outside of work hours?
Sports (squash, road biking), travel, and hanging out with friends and family.
Q: What is the last book you’ve read?
The Count of Monte Cristo. I had tears in my eyes at one point. I just loved it. Either I admired the goodness of certain characters, or maybe I just have a thing for revenge…
Q: If you could switch roles with someone in the company for a day, who would you switch with and why?
Stan Marsden. I’ve always wondered what he does.
Q: What are your biggest pet peeves?
Negativity. I enjoy being surrounded by positive people who love life.
Q: What is one achievement or experience at Cority that you’re most proud of?
That we have won Platinum level Best Employer in Canada awards from AON Hewitt two years in a row, as these awards are based on anonymous employee feedback.
Q: If you were given $40,000 to start your own business, what kind of business would you start?
An enterprise software company. It’s all I know and I love it.
Q: Tell us something that not many people know about you:
I have no hidden talents but a little-known fact is that when I was 23, I had a private conversation with Mother Teresa while working at her hospital in Calcutta. Pretty cool to have talked with a saint!
